I felt led to share this today:
A while back, I went to a homeless outreach center with a group of ministers, to share the good news of Jesus. We were instantly drawn to an elderly couple. The man looked like an old prospector from an old history book and the woman was a lovely Indigenous lady. We walked over to their table, introduced ourselves, and asked if we could pray for them. When we got to the part where they were repeating the sinners/rededication prayer, huge tears flowed down their cheeks as Holy Spirit was ministering to and touching them. They had responded to the invitation to return to Jesus and His outstretched, awaiting arms. God was offering them forgiveness, mercy, and grace in exchange for the wages of sin which leads to death. The woman explained that they used to follow Jesus, but had strayed away several years ago.
While we were praying, the man started sharing some sweet memories that he had about his mama. He paused and looked off into the distance, and shared of how she would tuck him in at night. He also told us about her prayers that she whispered at his bedside when he was just a small boy. Joy filled his face as he shared about her genuine love and prayers. It was so beautiful to hear how God was beckoning and working in his life, even as a small child. So many people that we minister to usually share some kind of God encounter in their childhood years as God is always desiring a restored relationship with His much loved creation.
After we finished praying, this couples countenance changed before our very eyes as they had a radical God encounter that day. Hopelessness was completely wiped out as their face expressions went from death to life! Guilt and shame was instantly washed away and peace and love overflowed over them. It was absolutely amazing! This man’s mother’s whispered prayers from long ago was answered as he returned to His Lord and Savior. It is absolutely astounding how God allows us to be a part of our sisters and brothers stories, to take part in the ministry of reconciliation that is found in 2 Corinthians 5:18. “Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” Our cry should be, “Yes Lord, send me, I will go for You!” I am also reminded of the scripture promise for our own children. Proverbs 22:6. “Train up (dedicate) a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” If you have a wayward child keep praying for them and never give up! “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord” Joshua 24:15. Better yet, reach out and minister to someone else’s child in the Name of Jesus and remember this beautiful story of this faithful mother’s prayers that were whispered so long ago.
